What's the best, quickest way to learn visual basic?

I went through a 5 day intro course and it was too fast and high level. I want to learn on Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. I was thinking of taking an online college course from U of Pheonix online, but not sure how that would work either. I bought a bunch of books but don't want to just read them cover to cover. I need little projects that I can practice on I guess. The problem is, when I have a little project, I never know where to find the commands I need. I currently only know how to program in Winbatch.

Whatever you want to learn on in visual studio, you can learn it by just starting with the basics, great if you have some simple script you want to run, which it sounds like you might. Then the internet will be your best friend and I think the best resource is newsgroups like groups.google.com search for your language and the struggle you are having. Unless you are the only one who has tried to do what you are doing, likely there is a post. That is the best way to learn. You will not go from basically nothing to having learned everything in one quick course. Hopefully you picked up enough to get started this way, I had done the same thing and that is what finally worked.
